LBS has always belied in completely evaluating its students based on their response across the year rather than in fixed set of tests and exams. However, we also believe that as a child grows, he/she needs to understand the relevance of a formal test and develop an ability for handling it without taking undue pressure.
For the Pre-Primary wing, the students are promoted to the next class based on their level of involvement in class activities and discussions. We also keenly observe the child behaviour and reactions in various situations to prepare their progress plan. The focus in these classes is to let the child progress at his/her own pace while covering the entire curriculum by the end of the year.
Students of classes I and II sit for a few formal evaluations. However, their performance is evaluated based on the following: their daily behaviour and involvement in class, routine class evaluations, behaviour outside class and performance in formals evaluations.
From class III onwards, promotion is granted on the basis of the whole year’s performance of the student. Different weightage is allotted to class performance, subject enrichment activities, maintenance of notebooks, periodic tests and mid-term/final term exams. Finally, a total score is calculated and grades are awarded based on it. The students are also awarded grades in Co-Scholastic areas and Physical Education.
